White Cane Safety Day Commemoration – Gumare 2025
White Cane Safety Day Commemoration – Gumare 2025
15 October, 2025
The Botswana Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted (BABPS) proudly joined the community of Gumare in commemorating White Cane Safety Day 2025, a day dedicated to celebrating the independence, resilience, and achievements of persons with visual impairments.
The white cane is far more than a mobility aid—it is a powerful symbol of independence, confidence, safety, and equal participation in society. It represents the right of persons with visual impairments to move freely, access opportunities, and live with dignity.
The commemoration served as an opportunity to raise public awareness about the importance of respecting the rights of white cane users and promoting safe, accessible environments. It also highlighted the shared responsibility of communities, motorists, and public institutions in ensuring that persons with visual impairments can travel safely and independently.
Our Call to Action
BABPS encourages everyone to:
- Respect and give way to white cane users in public spaces and on our roads.
- Support initiatives that promote accessibility and inclusion.
- Help build communities where persons with visual impairments can participate fully and equally.
Together, we can create a more inclusive, accessible, and equitable Botswana where every person has the opportunity to live independently and with dignity.
Happy White Cane Safety Day!
